当长线路高压单芯电缆运行时，由于电磁感应或设备故障，产生过电压，极易击穿电缆外护层套，形成单芯电缆多点接地故障，电缆护层保护器能有效限制电缆金属屏蔽层（金属护套）感应电压和设备故障过电压，更好的保护电缆的正常运行。电缆护层保护器主要用于缆护层保护接地箱和电缆护层交叉互联接地箱。
